Alanine-turnover and conversion to glucose of alanine in the hibernating, arousing and active hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus)

1984
Abstract 1. 1. In lethargic hedgehogs, the alanine turnover was greatly decreased and the neoformation of glucose from alanine, although very delayed, remained active. 2. 2. In arousing hedgehogs, the alanine metabolism remained low up to 20°C of body temperature then it progressively accelerated. The neoglucogenesis from alanine increased and became high in homeothermic animals.
