Orações reduzidas de infinitivo no português arcaico

2019
We investigate infinitive reduced clauses from Old Portuguese, taking into consideration its manifestation in the Dialogos de Sao Gregorio, a representative text of this period. The analysis contemplates the syntactic distribution of the inflected infinitive as opposed to the uninflected infinitive, extending the discussion to the occurrence of this category in Brazilian Portuguese. Providing a sociohistorical approach to the development of Brazilian Portuguese, it is argued that, in spite of the innovative properties regarding the pronominal and the inflectional systems, the inflected infinitive remains productive in this language.
