Procrastinación Académica en Estudiantes Universitarios de una Institución Pública

2021
Procrastination is a behavior that consists of delaying an activity intentionally and without apparent justification for which the task is postponed, this situation can have repercussions in daily life. In the case of students in the academic field, it can impact performance during their study activity. The present contribution, shows advances of a quantitative research of transversal character, its objective was to evaluate the level of academic procrastination in a sample of 147 students of three educational programs of the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Autonomous University of Carmen (UNACAR), through the adaptation of the questionnaire Procrastination Assessment Scale Students (PASS) of Solomon and Rothblum (1984). The adapted questionnaire was structured in three parts: the first refers to the student's academic data; the second determines the frequency of procrastination, the degree of problem that can cause the delay of the activity and the degree of interest that the student has in decreasing his tendency to procrastinate, and the third investigates the possible reasons for this behavior. The results show the existence of dilatory behaviors at moderate levels, the activity in which students procrastinate more is in the performance of final tasks; however, academic performance is related to this behavior and, on the other hand, the reasons for procrastinating are reflected in dimensions of attitudinal-emotional character because participants mention that it is difficult for them to initiate an activity because they do not believe they have the capacity to develop the task successfully.
