A Wideband Frequency Beam Scanning Antenna Based on the Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons

2019
In this paper, a wideband frequency beam scanning antenna based on the spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) is proposed. The proposed design is employed by a standard 50 ohm coplanar waveguide (CPW) line with periodic holes etched on its middle line to generate a wideband frequency scanning wave. Both numerical simulations and measured results demonstrate the good performance of the proposed structure. Simulation results show that the bandwidth of the proposed antenna is about 63.87% (from 13-25.2 GHz for ∣S11∣<-10 dB). Moreover, the scanning angle can reach 70° with an average peak gain level of 11.55 dB. The proposed SSPP-based frequency scanning antenna is of great value in planar integrated communication systems.
