Solvation of polymers in gels

For a number of polymer-solvent systems, the solvation numbers of macromolecular units were derived from data on the swelling of network polymers. A variation in the ratio between the bound and free solvents in polymer gels as a function of the network density of polymer and the thermodynamic quality of solvent was analyzed.
