Alphasat Propagation Measurements at Ka and Q Bands in Ljubljana: Three Years Statistical Analysis

2020
The satellite communications in Ka-, Q-, and higher frequency bands provide significant capacity increase due to the availability of wider bandwidths. The experimental measurement campaigns are of crucial importance for the investigation and modeling the effects of the impairment phenomena, rain in particular, and subsequently for the development of appropriate mitigation techniques. In this letter, the statistical analysis of three years of rain attenuation measurements in Ljubljana, Slovenia, are presented. The experiment was part of the European propagation measurement campaign, measuring signal from the Alphasat satellite at Ka- and Q- bands within the cooperation projects of the European Space Agency (ESA).
