Chapter 426 – Design and Analysis of Wavelength Selective Holographic Solar Concentrators for Its Use in Different Kind of Solar Cells

2000
Publisher Summary Different kind of Solar cells, for example, Silicon, Gallium-Arsenide, and Cadmium sulfide show maximum efficiency over different region of solar spectrum depending upon their band gap. Nearly 50% energy is lost as heat due to photons whose energies are low or high compared to band gap of the solar cell materials. Heat produced due to unwanted portion of solar spectrum, causes a deterioration in the performance characteristics of solar Cells. Over heating also causes degradation of absorber materials and limit life time of solar cells. This chapter shows that for a given dichromated gelatin holographic film of fixed emulsion thickness depth of refractive index modulation can be optimized to design wavelength selective holographic solar concentrators.
