Photodynamic therapy with half dose for central serous chorioretinopathy in macular

2012
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with half dose for central serous chorioretinopathy in macular. Methods Fifteen eyes of 15 patients with CSC in macular determined by ophthalmoscope, fundus fluorescence angiography (FFA) and OCT underwent photodynamic therapy with half standard dose verteporfin.Vertepofin was infused over 15minutes by laser application 30 seconds.Postoperatively, all patients were followed up for 1-12months (mean 4.5 months).During the time of follow up,examinations included visual acuity measurement, fundus examination,FFA and OCT. Results Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.4-1.2 (mean 0.78).The BCVA increased obviously in 14 eyes, stabilized in 1 eye.In FFA,the leakage regressed totally in 13 eyes, mostly in 2 eyes. The thickness of retinal neuro-epithelial layer of OCT recovered to normal in 14 eyes, mostly in 1 eye, while progressed in no one,1 eye CSC recurred in six months. Conclusions PDT with half standard dose verteporfin is beneficial to CSC,but further controlled study is warranted to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of long time in the therapy.
