Laser‐assisted electron‐atom collisions

Recent experimental measurements of laser‐assisted elastic scattering of electrons from atoms in the presence of a carbon dioxide laser are reported. These data are discussed in terms of the Kroll‐Watson approximation which is normally applied to such measurements. Large discrepancies between the predictions of such a theoretical treatment and the experimental data are observed.
