Effect of Recurrent Ischemia on the Rate of Brain Function Recovery in Monkeys

Transitory global forebrain ischemia was induced in cynomolgus monkeys and reproduced after a 21-day interval. The neurology, electroencephalogram, somatosensory evoked potential, and cerebral blood flow using SPECT 99 m Te HM PAO were investigated over a period of 31 days. The time course of the recovery rate of brain functions, as shown by the cumulative impact of the neurological deficit, indicates that progressive cerebral injuries take place following the initial ischemic insult and are clearly displayed in the case of recurrent ischemia.
