SURVEY SYSTEM FOR ROAD ROUGHNESS, RUTTING, AND TOPOGRAPHY (SIRST). FINAL REPORT

1986
The measurement of the hydroplaning potential of pavements is a useful criterion for ranking the performance of pavements. Detailed topography of a pavement can be measured very rapidly by a series of noncontact sensors such as the System for Inventory of Road Surface Topography (SIRST). This report details the testing and results of the performance of the SIRST system as originally delivered. After this evaluation, various modifications of the component parts were recommended. Once the modifications had been made, the system was again evaluated. All the modifications are documented in this report by drawings, descriptions, and program listings.
