Reduction of gauge symmetries: a new geometrical approach

We propose a new differential geometric tool to reduce gauge symmetries: the dressing field method. It is applied to various examples, including the electroweak sector of the standard model, the tetrad formulation of general relativity and the second-order conformal structure. Its extension to the BRST formalism is also proposed.
