Simulating and Embedding Fuzzy Logic for Dynamic Stabilization of RC Aircraft

2019
Aircrafts are by default designed to be dynamically stable, with respect to aerodynamics. But certain wing configurations like forward swept or anhedral wings are not aerodynamically stable and need to be stabilized by the pilot in real time using the control surfaces. This paper proposes an employment of a fuzzy controller which would provide data to all the control surfaces as well as the required throttle to abate the need for the pilot's interference to regain stability. Simulation of the aforementioned fuzzy controller was done in MATLAB and the logic was embedded into an Arduino. To evaluate the performance and effectiveness of this controller the Arduino was integrated in the avionics of a self-designed RC aircraft. The results were compared with that of a standard linear controller.
