Interplanetary solar stereoscopic observatory

2006
This paper proposes the space project Interplanetary Solar Stereoscopic Observatory (ISSO). The experiment must last for one solar cycle (11 yr) and involves placing two spacecraft at the two trigonal libration points of the system consisting of the sun and the center of mass of the earth + moon, with replacement of the equipment in the middle of the solar cycle. The planned program of the experiment includes synchronous stereoscopic observations of active processes on the sun, photometric observations in a broad-band UBVR system, stereoscopic observations of the bodies of the solar system, and determination of the parallaxes of nearby stars. The possibility of supporting terrestrial programs of observations of microlensing events with the instruments of the ISSO is discussed. A method for independent navigation of the spacecraft and an on-board device for this purpose have been developed.
