Glanders (Burkholderia mallei)

Glanders once was a common malady of horses and rarely of humans. It has largely been eradicated around the globe since the 1960s. The recent interest in biological warfare (BW) has placed this ancient disease back in the spotlight as a potential weapon. This chapter presents a detailed account of this near-forgotten disease, and offers a current biological defense perspective.
