Rhetorical Argumentation and Informal Logic

Argumentation is a verbal and social act of reasoning. Currently, the study of this phenomenon is drawing large numbers of researchers in the west. Informal logic, one of the major branches of logic, is concerned with the analysis, interpretation and evaluation of argumentation in everyday speech. However, researchers differ as to what reasoning is valid for argumentation in humanities and daily life. This paper proposes the notion of rhetorical argumentation, providing a solution by an illustration of the differences between formal logic and informal logic.
