Mechanical Property of CdS Coated PET and Mica Films

2008
Thick film of CdS is coated on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and mica films (both are commercially available) using screen‐printing method. The variation of complex modulus and Tan δ has been studied by Dynamic Mechanical Analyser (DMA). Complex modulus decreases with increase in temperature due to softening of the PET film. The Tan δ initially increases with temperature up to a certain temperature and then decreases with increase in temperature. The Tg of PET is found to be 107 °C. The Complex modulus of PET film is increased due to coating of CdS and the peak of Tan δ shifts to a higher temperature i.e. 112 °C indicating increase in mechanical strength. Similarly, the complex modulus of mica also decreases with temperature due to softening and Tan δ remains nearly constant. After coating CdS on mica, the complex modulus is increased due to the effect of CdS particles and there is a small peak in Tan δ due to the structural changes in CdS at interface.
