Time-domain system modeling and applications for multi-function array radar weather measurements

2018
This paper introduces a time-domain modeling and simulation method for system performance of future SENSR (Spectrum-Efficient National Surveillance Radar) radars. The focus in this work is modeling the interactions between radar waveforms and the distributed weather scatterers in time-domain with Rayleigh scattering, while other aspects of system modeling are also discussed. It is revealed that there are certain characteristics in the scattered electric field of the incident waveform due to weather scatterers, which may have impact on the return signals. In addition, an end-to-end system simulation is also described as the basis of a new Phased Array System Simulator (PASIM), which is based on the time-domain system simulation concept and NEXRAD truth data.
