ADVANTAGES OF SIMULTANEOUS USE OF CEMENT KILN DUST AND BLAST FURNACE SLAG

2009
This study has investigated the rebars corrosion performance of a set of different mortar specimens with simultaneous use of BFS and CKD. Whole reinforced concrete specimens were exposed to high chloride conditions by partial immersion in 3.5% w/w NaCl solution simulating seawater conditions. During test period measurements of concrete performance included half cell potential, compressive strength, electrochemical measurements of rates of corrosion of steel in concrete (using Linear Polarization and Tafel Techniques), were taken in intervals time period. Additionally, measuring the rebar's weight loss and carbonation depth tested the corrosion activity and mineral admixture efficiencies. The test results show that when BFS and CKD are added in proper ratio in OPC cement, the compressive strength and the corrosion resistance increase.
