2020
To determine the response rate to sofosbuvir and ribavirin in chronic HCV patients who have not-responded or have relapsed with interferon therapy. This was a retrospective data analysis conducted in the outpatient department of PHRC Research Centre, JPMC Karachi for a duration of two years. Chronic HCV patients who have relapsed or have not responded to previous interferon therapy and are HCV RNA positive were treated with tablet sofosbuvir 400mg once daily and ribavirin based on body weight (800mg for 70kg) for six months. Out of 100 cases ,60 male and 40 female, Mean age was 41.5 ± 9.92, There were 16 non –responders and 84 relapsers in the study. Response rate in relapsers was 88.1% and non responders was 75%. Out of 13 patients with decompensated cirrhosis, 11 (84.6%) achieved SVR. Females had a significantly higher response rate as compared to males.(p>0.05). The sustained virological response rate in interferon treated chronic hepatitis C patients retreated with sofosbuvir and ribavirin is 86%.
