Automatic Anisotropic Velocity Analysis For Full Azimuth Gathers Using AVAZ

Summary An automatic velocity picking method for deriving high resolution anisotropic v elocities is presented. The method can be used to pick isotropic and anisotropic velocity fields simultaneously on full azimuth 3D angle gathers. The same procedure can be used to simultaneously process multiple azimuth sectors of conventional gathers. The resulting velocity field is very detailed both laterally and vertically. Time data, as well as depth data, can be analyzed using the same procedure. Both offset, as well as angle gathers, can be processed with the same approach. For wide azimuth AVAZ analysis, such a procedure is essentia l since wide-azimuth gather flattening is a critical element in the process. Manual picking alternatives are not practical in this case.
