Accidental foreign body in the right atrium presenting with shock

2016
Accidental foreign body in the right atrium is very rare and can lead to life threatening sepsis especially in the pediatric age group who cannot communicate their symptoms to their parents. Iatrogenic cause of foreign bodies left behind in chambers of the heart is documented but accidental foreign bodies in the right atrium are rarely reported. We present such a case in an 18-month-old baby with features of sepsis. Urgent intervention led to the foreign body retrieval and the control of sepsis in this patient.
