Dynamic Range Improvement of Microwave Photonic Link Based on Destructive Combination of Nonlinear Distortions

We propose a new method to improve linearity of microwave photonic link, a highly nonlinear microwave signal is achieved by suppressing the optical carrier and one of the first order sideband of a phase modulation signal, this highly nonlinear signal was used to compensate for the nonlinear distortion of a conventional signal, with precise amplitude and phase matching, the third order intermodulation distortion can be suppressed by more than 24 dB, leading to an improvement in spurious-free dynamic range of 13.8 dB.
