Adsorption of Chitosan-guanidine Salt Nanoparticles on Modified Diatomite and Its Application in Antibacterial Paper

2014
The chitosan-guanidine salt nanoparticles were prepared by ionic gelation method, and the characterization of the nanoparticles was determinated by FT-IR. Meanwhile, the diatomite was modified using the sodium dodecyl sulfate( SDS),and the adsorption of chitosanguanidine salt nanoparticles on the modified and native diatomite were studied. The results showed that no new peaks were found from the complex of chitosan and guanidine salt, and the characteristic peaks of chitosan only shifted, which indicated that chitosan and guanidine salt were bonded together by physical crosslinking. The adsorption equilibrium time of the nanoparticles on the surface of modified diatomite was estimated to be about 10 min,and the adsorption amount increased when the diatomite was modified. The antibacterial paper was prepared by coating the diatomite absorbed the chitosan-guanidine salt nanoparticles on the surface of base paper. According to the disc diffusion method, the antibacterial paper exhibited remarkable antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
