Knowledge based condition monitoring

This paper examines some issues in applying expert systems to the condition monitoring process. The first project is an ongoing research study, supported by the Offshore Supplies Office. The trend to lightweight and unmanned platforms offshore places a heavy burden on the reliability of equipment. The research study is to investigate the application of deep knowledge based methods to condition monitoring. The second project relates to work undertaken by YARD for SSEB who had identified the potential for knowledge based technology to interpret turbine vibration data in a similar fashion to the human analyst, and provide an on-line statement about the health of the machine
