Process for separation of metals from batteries containing lithium

2011
The invention relates to a metal recovery process from a battery or crushed lithium battery cells comprising the steps of: a) leaching the ground material in an acid medium so as to dissolve a portion of the ground material to obtain a solution containing metal ions and a portion of insoluble comminuted, b) separation of the metal ions in solution comprising i) separating the metal ions contained in the solution obtained at the end of step a) on a first cation exchange resin, of preferably a sulfonic acid cation exchange resin, so as to obtain a lithium ion solution (i-1), a solution of nickel ions, cobalt and / or manganese (i-2) and an aluminum ion solution ( i-3), ii) separating a mixture of nickel and cobalt ions and manganese ions in the solution (i-2) to a second cation exchange resin, preferably a sulfonic acid cation exchange resin, of fa is to obtain a solution of nickel and cobalt ions (ii-1) and a manganese ion solution (ii-2).
