Clinical Observation on Combination of Limbal Epithelial Autograft and Extracapsular Cataract Extraction
2004
Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of limbal epithelial autograft transplantation combined with extracapsular cataract extraction in treatment of pterygium with cataract. Methods The pterygium limbal epithelial autograft transplantation combined with extracapsular cataract extraction were performed on 23 cataract patients with pterygium. After 12~24 months follow-up, the visual acuity, astigmatism and complications were investigated. Results 3 month after operation,The visual acuity of 20 eyes was ≥0.5(86.9%). wenty-three cases have stable corneal epithelial healing and transparent graft. The surgery significantly decreased cornea astigmatism(P0.05). The complications such as recurrence of pterygium was1 case, posterior capsular opacification was 2 cases. Graft rejection and cornea ulcer were not found. Conclusion Limbal epithelial autograft transplantation combined with extracapsular cataract extraction is a safe and effective method of decreasing recurrence rates and promoting improved vision.
