A DSC study of the phase transitions in (CH3)3NH[CdCl3]

Abstract Three phase transitions are seen at 333, 365 and 408 K when (CH 3 ) 3 NH[CdCl 3 ] is heated in DSC. Only the transition at 333 K is reversible, although it shows considerable thermal hysteresis. That transition appears to have a Δ H value of 150 J mol −1 and a Δ S value of 0.45 J mol −1 K −1 . The transitions at 365 K and 408 K have Δ H values of 420 J mol −1 and 35 J mol −1 respectively, which give rise to Δ S values of 1.15 J mol −1 K −1 and 0.086 J mol −1 K −1 respectively.
