LE VIVRIER DANS LA POLITIQUE COLONIALE AGRICOLE EN COTE D’IVOIRE : 1908-1960

Durant la periode allant de 1908 a 1929, l’acquisition du vivrier par le pouvoir colonial obeissait a une logique predatrice : impot de capitation en nature et livraisons obligatoires des produits vivriers. Cette situation changea apres la crise des annees 30. L’administration initia un programme d’intensification de la production agricole et pastorale. Le programme agricole elabore a cet effet, etait axe autour de plusieurs points. Mais, il mit l’accent sur les cultures d’exportation. Quelques interventions realisees au niveau du vivrier furent en faveur du riz pluvial et du mais. Apres la Seconde Guerre mondiale et jusqu’en 1960, la production agricole vivriere enregistra une augmentation. Cela fut realise grâce a l’urbanisation acceleree dans les principaux centres urbains de la Basse-Cote et a l’abolition du travail force en 1946. En effet, les hommes liberes du travail force prirent conscience de la valeur marchande que representaient les cultures vivrieres.
