GPS Scintillations and TEC Monitoring at Guilin, China
2008
The occurrence of ionospheric scintillations and total electron content (TEC) fluctuations was studied using GPS L-band measurements at Guilin, a south station in Chinese longitude region. The detailed results are presented for data collected from January 2007 to June 2008. We generally found that amplitude scintillations occurred rarely at night but frequently in the daytime. Nighttime amplitude scintillations observed at Guilin always occurred with phase scintillations and TEC fluctuations, but TEC fluctuations never took place during daytime scintillations. This implies large and small-scale ionospheric irregularities coexisted during nighttime scintillation activities, but large-scale ionospheric irregularities didnpsilat exist when daytime scintillations occurred.
