A lithium-ion battery demonstrator for HEV applications featuring a smart system at cell level

This paper presents a demonstrator of a Lithiumion battery for automotive applications. A printed circuit board consisting of sensors, local memory elements, a digital signal processing unit and a communication interface is integrated into a Lithium-ion cell case. We demonstrate the mechanical and electrical feasibility of addressing and real-time monitoring of single Lithium-ion battery cells using a wireless communication system. The battery voltage is measured with an accuracy of 1 mV with a maximum offset of 100 mV. The temperature measurement accuracy is 1 K.
