A research of the degree of cognition about umbilical cord blood for the treatment of neoplastic disease from Guangzhou University student

Objective Umbilical cord blood has become the important source of hematopoietic stem cells,especially in unrelated hematopoietic stem cell source.In order to understand people's cognition about umbilical cord blood,Guangzhou University students were researched about the degree of cognition about umbilical cord blood for the treatment of neoplastic disease.Methods An online questionnaire survey of Guangzhou University student was complete at star website in 2011 June.The questionnaire consisted of 11 questions,and used SPSS 13.0 for Statistical analysis of data.Results 193 valid questionnaires were received,many people were not understand the umbilical cord blood.34.2% of the respondents did not hear the umbilical cord blood,8.29% of the respondents were very familiar with the umbilical cord blood,50.26% investigators said" do not understand the value of umbilical cord blood ".90.67% respondents feel waste that umbilical cord blood as a waste to be disposed,but only 23.83% people will be retained for children of umbilical cord blood.People got the knowledge of umbilical cord blood from TV (34.72%),network (26.42%),newspapers and magazines (21.24%),but most of them want to get the medical knowledge of the pathways are on television (63.21%),network (70.06%),magazines (52.85%).There were 54.92% of respondents thought "interpersonal communication" is also important.Conclusion People had less knowledge of umbilical cord blood,and did not understand its medical importance.They need more education.
