Electrically operated folding headrest

A head restraint assembly includes a rod assembly comprising a first rod section, a second rod section, and a first rod section to said second rod section connecting cross member portion. The first rod section and said second rod section are formed for connection to a vehicle seat. The headrest includes a pad that is movably mounted to the rod assembly, a first gear and a motor which rotates the first gear in a clockwise direction or counterclockwise. Rotation of the first gear wheel drives a second gear, which in turn drives a third gear. A rotation of the second gear in a first direction causes a movement of the cushion to a tilted position, while a movement of the second gear in a second direction causes a movement of the cushion to an upright position.
