POTENCIAL PRODUTIVO E HETEROSE DE HÍBRIDOS DE POPULAÇÕES F2 DE MILHO NO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO

Na cultura do milho, a hibridacao visa aproveitar os efeitos da heterose. Todavia, a obtencao de hibridos simples oriundos de linhagens endogâmicas tem alto custo de producao, fato este que tem limitado sua utilizacao pelos produtores de baixa a media tecnologia. Uma alternativa potencialmente viavel para a reducao do custo das sementes de milho e a obtencao de hibridos de populacoes F2. Este trabalho teve como objetivos identificar hibridos de populacoes F2 promissores quanto aos caracteres agronomicos florescimento masculino, altura de planta, altura de espiga e peso de graos; e estimar a heterose para peso de graos. Foram avaliados 56 hibridos de populacoes F2, oriundos de dialelos completos entre 16 populacoes F2 parentais provenientes da autofecundacao de hibridos comerciais, nos anos agricolas 2008/2009 e 2009/2010, no Centro Experimental Central do Instituto Agronomico de Campinas (Campinas), na APTA Regional do Nordeste Paulista (Mococa) e na APTA Regional do Vale do Paranapanema (Palmital). Evidenciaram-se 17 hibridos de populacoes F2 com desempenhos produtivos equivalentes aos das testemunhas comerciais DKB 350, DKB 390 e IAC 8333. Obtiveram-se elevados valores de heterose, indicando efeitos de dominância na expressao da produtividade em cruzamentos especificos e confirmando o potencial produtivo de hibridos de populacoes F2 para producao comercial de milho. PRODUCTIVE POTENTIAL AND HETEROSIS OF HYBRIDS OF MAIZE F2 POPULATIONS IN THE STATE OF SAO PAULO ABSTRACT In maize culture, the objective of hybridization is to take advantage of the effects of heterosis. However, obtainment of single-cross hybrids derived from inbred lines requires high seed costs, which is a fact that limits their use by low to medium technology producers. A potentially viable alternative for reducing the cost of maize seeds is to obtain hybrids of F2 populations. Thus, the objectives of this study were to identify promising hybrids of F2 populations regarding the agronomic traits of male flowering, plant height, ear height and grain weight; and to estimate the heterosis of grain weight. This study evaluated 56 hybrids of F2 populations, obtained from a complete diallel scheme among 16 parental F2 populations – which were obtained from selffertilization of commercial hybrids – in state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The experiments were carried out in two agricultural years, 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, in the Instituto Agronomico de Campinas – IAC (in Campinas); in APTA Regional do Nordeste Paulista (Mococa); and in APTA Regional do Vale do Paranapanema (Palmital). Seventeen hybrids of the F2 generation were highlighted, with productive performances equivalent to those of the commercial checks of DKB 350, DKB 390 and IAC 8333. High values of heterosis were obtained, indicating dominance effects on the expression of yield at specific crossings, and confirming the productive potential of F2 population hybrids for the commercial production of maize.
