Ship waste quantities prediction model for the Port of Belgrade
2011
This study focuses on the issues related to the waste management in river
ports in general and especially in the port of Belgrade. Data on solid waste,
waste oils, oily waters, gray water and black water have been collected for a
period of five years. The methodology of data collection is presented. Trends
of data were analyzed and the regression model was used to predict the waste
quantities in the Belgrade port. This data could be utilized as a basis for
the calculation of the equipment capacity for waste selective collection,
treatment and storage. The results presented in this study establish the need
for an organized management system for this type of waste which can be
achieved either by constructing and providing new specialized terminal or by
providing mobile floating facilities and other plants in the Port of Belgrade
for these kinds of services. In addition to the above, the legislative and
organizational strategy of waste management has been explored to complete the
study because the impact of good waste management on environment and
prevention of environmental accidents would be highly beneficial. This study
demonstrated that addressing these issues should be considered at
international as well as national level.
