Reinvestigation of electron impact vibrational excitation mechanisms of 1H/Si(100)-(2×1) surfaces
2005
Abstract We reinvestigate inelastic electron scattering mechanisms involved in vibrational excitation of bending and stretching modes of 1H/Si(1 0 0)-(2 × 1) surfaces by means of high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) in the specular geometry. We have obtained energy loss spectra, reflectivity curve, normalized and absolute energy dependences of the intensity of these modes. These results, allow us to rule out any resonant mechanism in the excitation process of the bending and stretching modes for these surfaces and suggest rather an hybrid dipole-impact scattering mechanism
