Microstructure and Magnetostriction of the Oriented Galfenol Alloy

The ingots of Fe100-XGaX(X=17、19)were prepared by non-consumuble vacuum arc melting and directional solidification.Their microstructure and magnetostriction were systematically investigated.The results show the Fe83Ga17 alloys prepared present distinct {110} texture features.The magnetostriction of both alloys increases with the magnetic field and the largest saturation magnetostriction value of Fe83Ga17 alloy is 55×10-6 in 40 KA/m.The orientation of Fe81Ga19 alloy along the axial direction decreases slightly,and there are many sub-grain boundary.The precipitation of Ga-rich phase and sub-grain boundary existence are not conducive to the improvement of magnetostriction.
