Targeting the adaptive response in adiponectin receptor signalling following androgen targeted therapy in prostate cancer: Efficacy in castrate LNCaP tumour xenografts in vivo

Circulating adiponectin is reported as clinically lower in PCa patients, compared to non‐malignant disease, and inversely correlates with Gleason score. In fact advanced disease is associated with more severe hypoadiponectinemia than organ‐confined PCa. While adiponectin is classically known as an adipokine that controls systemic energy homeostasis through 5′‐AMP‐activated protein kinase (AMPK); more reports are emerging that link altered adiponectin signalling to PCa progression and aggressiveness.
