STATUS AND POSSIBLE MANAGEMENT OF PAPAYA RING SPOT VIRUS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO INSECT VECTORS

2001
Papaya cultivation in India is being threatened by Papaya Ring Spot Virus  (PRSV). It is vectored by several species of aphids, The disease is characterised by  mottling, distortion of leaves and ring spots on fruits. Early infection leads to severe  reduction in yield. This paper attempts to review several management strategies, to  encourage research on these lines. Developing transgenic plants seems to be most  promising.
