APPLICATION OF TURBOGENERATORS TO HYBRIDE ELECTRIC VEHICLES

1997
The concept of a turbogenerator consisting of a small gas turbine directly coupled to a new high speed permanent magnet alternator is described. Its application to hybrid electric vehicles is proposed and simulations have been performed and presented for the Federal Urban Driving Cycle. Comparisons have been made between a vehicle with a conventional powertrain and that of the hybrid electric system with a turbogenerator. The significance of achieving low emissions and reduced fuel consumption with a turbogenerator based system is illustrated. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 493111.
