Inversion method of Fl layer on vertical sounding ionogram

An inversion method of F1 layer on vertical sounding ionogram is presented. An ionospheric model for incompletely developed F1 layer is established based on the quasi-parabolic segmented model(QPS model),and the profile of the ionospheric electron density is described directly by the QPS model. Via adjusting the parameters of the model,the ionospheric parameters are determined by minimizing the rms error between the real virtual height and the calculated one. The method overcomes the scaling error to some extent,and is optimal in the sense of the least rms error of the virtual height. This method can validly inverse many kinds of ionograms where each layer is completed developed,F1 layer is not completed developed,or F1 layer is blanketed by Es layer,etc.
