Questionnaire survey on AIDS in rural areas and effectiveness of relevant health education

In order to get an accurate grasp of the situation of understanding of AIDS in rural villages and to design appropriate measures according to the concrete situation in January of 2003 the Kuerle City Health Education Department uniting its individuals’ occupational specialties conducted a survey questionnaire on basic knowledge of AIDS among residents of Aketashi village Tiekeqi county Kuerle city and those who had come there to find employment (renting a house in the village). According to the results of the survey there is effective STD and AIDS health knowledge propaganda. Comparative analysis was done before and after the health education intervention. Results are reported below. Subjects and Methods 1. Subjects 120 residents (ethnic Uighur) from 3 units of Aketashi village Tiekeqi county; 80 people renting houses in the village having come from elsewhere to find employment. The population was mixed with educational levels unequal and for the most part relatively low. Of the 120 Uighur: 3 had high school degrees 20 completed junior middle school 65 elementary school 32 had not completed any school; of the 80 coming from elsewhere for work: 1 had a university degree 2 had high school degrees 11 middle school 32 elementary and 34 none. The average age was 38. 2. Methods Used a random method of selecting homes to survey. Names were not recorded only occupation educational level and sex. Surveys were immediately collected. Both before and after the intervention 200 identical surveys were provided 388 valid surveys were returned the response rate was 97%. (authors)
