A dual polarized UHF/VHF honeycomb stacked-patch array antenna: Overview of an enabling technology for the MOSS mission

The full-size VHF/UHF antenna feed array prototype for the MOSS radar antenna system was successfully built and tested. The validity of the design and feasibility of constructing such a feed system for a future spaceborne radar that has a 30-m mesh reflector antenna was demonstrated. No road blocks or major remaining challenges were identified, though several potentials for improvement were identified. The feed system prototyped here is expected to provide all characteristics necessary for a spaceborne version of the MOSS radar system.
