Pain-sensing nerve cells can mobilize blood stem cells in mice, with a component of chilli peppers being one stimulus. The finding holds the promise of improving procedures for stem-cell transplantation. Stimulation of nociceptive neurons mobilizes haematopoietic stem cells.
