Electric dipole analogue phonon polaritons in monolayer hexagonal boron nitrides

2019
The detail extensive property of phonon polaritons in wide bandgap semiconductor hexagonal boron nitrides is numerically analyzed and presented. The quasi-particles strongly coupled with photons of light within the hexagonal boron nitrides layer, the resultant wave-like quantum particle resides and propagates at the surface with properties similar to well-known plasmon polaritons in metals. These new class of phenomena provides a means to confine, control, and propagates electromagnetic energy into deep subwavelength scales, which was considered challenging prior to their exploration.
