Monte-Carlo simulation of collision limited OGMS process

The process of particle separation in air by a linear superconducting open gradient magnetic separator (OGMS) is studied in the presence of particle collisions. An optimization procedure to find the most favorable separator configuration is carried out and the dependence of particle trajectories and deflections upon the particle volume concentration of the falling curtain is investigated in detail. Conditions for particle-size-independent separation are also discussed and the effects associated with the finite width of the particle curtain are explained. The results are compared with those of the collisionless case and conditions for reducing the adverse effect of collisions are discussed and their relation to particle-curtain width is examined. >
