Observation of Strong Coupling Between Graphene Plasmons and THz Surface Optical Phonons

Spectral measurements of electrically-gated graphene nanoribbons deposited on silicon dioxide reveals the dispersion of four branches of surface-phonon-plasmon polaritons. Consistent with calculations, strong coupling via long-range Frolich interactions in the lowest THz branch is observed.
