Gangliosides represent a group of glycolipids like N-acetilneuroaminic acid (NANA), sphingosine, fatty acids, N-acetilglycoseamine, glycose and galactose. Their molecular structure has been sharply defined by DeRobertis et al. (1960). It is shown in Figure 1.
