Abstract This study was to investigate the effects of selenide chitosan sulfate (Se-CTS-S) on glutathione (GSH) system in hepatocytes and chickens. Chitosan, sodium selenite (Na2SeO3), selenide chitosan (Se-CTS), chitosan sulfate (CTS-S) and Se-CTS-S were added into the cultural medium and the basal diets, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity, GSH content and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and the mRNA levels of cellular GPx (GPx-1) and phospholipid hydroperoxide GPx (GPx-4) in vivo and in vitro were determined.
