PURPOSE: To provide a compound useful in the inhibition of HIV protease, the prevention or treatment of infection by HIV and the treatment of AIDS. CONSTITUTION: This HIV protease inhibitor is the compound represented by formula I (wherein: A is a group represented by formula II (R 1 is H or an optionally substituted alkyl group; R 2 and R 3 are joined to each other to form an optionally substituted, saturated or unsaturated, 5- or 7-membered heterocycle or 7- to 10-membered bicyclic heterocycle); G is a group represented by formula III or IV (each of R 6 and R 7 is (CH 2 ) n R 9 or an alkenyl-R 9 (R 9 is H, an alkyl or optionally substituted aryl group, or the like; and (n) is an integer of 0 to 5); R 8 is OH, NHR 10 (R 10 is COH or an alkyl group); Q is a group represented by formula V or VI, or the like; and the symbol represented by formula VII is an optionally substituted 3-7C cycloalkyl group); and J is NHR 11 (R 11 is a group of an optionally substituted, 5- to 7-membered carbocycle or 7- to 10-membered bicyclic carbocycle) or a group of an optionally substituted, 5- to 7-membered carbocycle or 7- to 10-membered bicyclic carbocycle), such as N-(2(R)- hydroxy-1(S)-indanyl)-5(S)-(3(S)-tetrahydrofuranyloxycabonylamino)-4(S)hydroxy-6- cyclohexyl-2(R)-isopropylhexanamide represented by formula VIII.
